GM now has built in 'a*' path finding (or, finding a path according to a grid) could someone make a gmd example using this (I read over it but was pretty confuseded)

this is the way it works,
when you create a path there is a green dot in the middle of the grid, that dot is the location of the object that is assigned to the path. the first click will select the location of the green dot, after that each click contributes to the continuing of the path. the assigned object will follow the path with 0,0 being the location of the object. there are other options but those arn't to confusing. if you need any more help just pm me.

is this using the path resources, or the GML coding? I haven't looked at the path resources since 5.3 came out. Maybe I'm due to. There's an entire section somewhere in the manual for the path resources.
