Seeing as most of the time, we're talking about LGM, or programming, I thought it could be good if we got to know each other a little better (I'm starting to feel like I talk to everyone like a robot). I thought music would be a good place to start. (yeah I know there's only about 5 regulars on this forum at the most, but it's better than starting a 10 page epic on the G-Java forums).
So anyway, I pretty much only listen to instrumental jazz - there's just something about good jazz that really does it for me. It's always so intense, and all the good soloists pour their heart and soul into it. That's why they usually screw up their face, or move their shoulders around, or something - they use all of their concentration to feel the music. You can just tell that it's their life and they love it.
At this point I'll mention that I am a musician myself. I play alto sax, but before I started that, I played clarinet for 5 years (I still do play clari). As you might have guessed, I love to play jazz as much as I love listening to it. Without bragging about it, I'm one of the best musicians in my school (though there isn't a lot of competition to be honest). I still have a long way to go as far as music is concerned....
I also listen to some classical music occasionally, and play a bit on clarinet. There is something satisfying about playing something technically demanding (it gets frustrating when you can't though), and I like to listen to more difficult music and appreciate the skill required to play it.
Strangely enough, I don't mind listening to a bit of metal either. My friend introduced me to the band "Dream Theatre", and I really enjoy some of their songs. I like how they use uneven meters and the guitar solos are mindblowing (that link to jazz is probably why I like it).
If anyone wants to suggest songs/bands/whatever to me, I'll try and track them down.
If you like jazz, I won't need to tell you all the greats, but an Australian band called "Void" recently toured the US. If you find any their albums, get them, you won't be disappointed.
