This is just a friendly reminder not to panic.
On 2006-May-04 at 1400 GMT, the GameMaker Community was hacked. Mark Overmars had created an account for maintanance and assigned it a guessable password. The GMC and ProBoards (which is what this forum is hosted on) both use MD5 ambiguous collision hashing encryption on passwords. This means that even if the hacker knew how to undo MD5 encryption, they would only be able to get a few different ideas of what your password might have been. With a carefully chosen password that includes numbers, you are not at risk at all unless you have a keylogger or other high risk spyware installed on your computer.
the GMRPGBoards are not affiliated with the GMC, and is only advertised in a select number of signatures - myself perhaps being the most prominent since I seem to be a fairly active poster. Thus, our forum is likely not at risk.
Further, the mods cut connection to the GMC database when they found out about the hack, so the hacker cannot access any of the data.
Again, this is just a friendly reminder not to panic. If, however, you have not posted in the past month, it's a good time to panic because Spring Cleaning has begun and your account may be terminated. Enjoy your vacation from the GMC. Rumor has it, the GMC will start over fresh on a new forum.

Heh, oh well. It was due for a huge clean up. The moral of this story is to never put your password as something easily guessable.

As you can see, the GMC is now back online (and has been for some time) - and our accounts are still there, unaltered, passwords still the same.
Since this is now old news, I'll close this.
