Yes, this is the first completed RPG in these forums. Episode 1 never uploaded, and his post wasn't finished until he uploaded, so that post doesn't count. Glad to see the board's FIRST COMPLETED RPG! congrats can't wait to play it. I'm downloading (56k, it'll take a few minutes)

Can't wait for someone to play and reply here!
Actually what I mean to say is that if anyone wants to know how I did something in this game I'm willing to share. And I can help with other stuff too. This game was very very rushed for the first couple weeks so that's why there are like only 4 items only a couple caves but the plot is good and I for one like the music. People at the main GMC forums seem to dislike the graphics and music but respect the gameplay, so (bringing this rant full circle), if I can give any help I'm always available.
And I want SOMEONE to finish it; the game gets better as it goes on, I know it starts kinda slow but once you get past the first boss it gets better and better.
If anyone has say 3 hours free I'd love someone to play through
Oh that reminds I was gonna make a walkthrough for some GM cheat site!

Hmm, a few goods and a few bads, so here's my constructive criticism. I played up to the first boss, but not any further (couldn't beat em) The graphics aren't professional, but are good for a GM game. Sounds are great. Gameplay is moderate. One BIG problem I ran into was for some reason the alert boxes always showed up to the right of whoever's talking, which if the view isn't far enough right, they won't be fully in view. In the castle, I couldn't figure out what the two rightmost guys were saying cuz their text was out of view. Random battles are a bit too frequent for how fast the character moves. Grid movement is great. Battle system is very cool. If some of these problems are due to my computer perhaps, here's my computer specs: userweb.nni.com/cmagicj/specs.pngGeForce Graphics card. Yup, everything's new (except the monitor)

Nope, notcher specs, it's your screen resolution! I just figured it out this morning while listening to similar complaints at the GMC: Since I used the show_messaged routines for dialogue, on smaller screen resolutions the speaking bubbles appear very large and far off center, causing the text to go off screen for a couple characters. After doing some testing, I've discovered the game is alright at 1024x768 and up, any below will have problems. I tested at 1280 x 1024, and it all looks sweet. At 800x600 though the loading screen looked much cooler, but that's when the off screen problems start, EDIT: Hey! I've moved up to Active Noob! Yay! ;D EDIT: Looks like your new computer is just like mine only with half the ram and a good amount less mhz (And I bet I paid less hehehe) jk

No, my dad found an awesome deal. if he hadn't of found it, i'd still be on 98 Yeah, i'm on 800x600, any smaller I have trouble reading the screen (because of my old monitor). Thanks for telling me. Now I can play further Edit: When you get killed, and it goes back to the title screen, the mouse is gone.

The mouse disappears? Oops, my bad. Uh, you'll just have to guess where it is then hehe otherwise you could press escape to Exit and then reload the game.
Hey, wait, is anyone other than IsmAvatar going to play and reply? I thank you for giving feedback but I'd like some more. With the things people have been saying I might put out a v1.1 later tonight with bits to keep the speaking on screen at smaller resolutions, to allow the player to run farther before the next battle, and to make the smileys weaker so the battles go faster I guess.

i like this game, havent played a lot of it yet, but ill review what i have played:
graphics 7/10 if you drew them yourself, they are very good!
sound 9/10, very funy and fits well!
gameplay 8/10 like ism said, too frequent battles, also would have been nice if the npcs walked around a bit. it seems very hard at the moment as well.....
overall 8/10, should become 9 when u release v1.1
great game ;D

YAY! Cool. The graphics were split between 3 peeps: Riku (Human final bosses and the shopkeeper), tdgc (All nonbackground, nonhuman, nonminigame, nonbattle, nonavatar sprites including tiles), and myself (battle, background, and people sprites). I used Riku's graphics to make the people; I just edited his shopkeeper until it looked like Richard now, then I clipped and edited to get Richard in all 4 directions, and then I copied the 4 directions other than up and used those to make the other people. Then I animated Richard...Originally, running up looked reaaally stupid his hands wuold go wayy behind him, and also it took me a while to notice but because I clicked in the wrong spot in the left-right graphics Richard had a stiff one for a couple days, if you catch my drift oops I can add walking people, too, that's a good idea. I didn't want to tackle it because the game was rushed so I passed it by, but in hindsight it should be there. And the game is a bit hard until you grab a team of 5 using the miniwalkthrough I put at the forum (link in first post) and then it just kinda breezes through the rest of the way except for the boss battles. The whole thing shouldn't take much more than 3 hours if you just play straight through, but after I make the battles faster maybe that'll go down to 2! EDIT: Oh, and the sounds are funny? I swear for days on end I couldn't ignore that attack sound, the Dreaded Smiley Pimp Slap (ptcha) ;D

Alright, Version 1.1 is finished! The link is the same, and I tried a patch setup but it ended up the same size Most noticable differences are Richard's speed increase, the battle toggles B and N, and the new loading screen.
Have fun!

You musta used the patch maker wrong. Clickteam requires that the new and old version each have the same name and be in separate folders. You then target the folder with the older version for old, and the folder with the newer version for new. It'll then compare all files with the same name, and only record the differences. Then it makes a very small exe out of it. If you don't follow these steps, you'll find the "small" exe is a bit larger than the game itself (because it thinks it has to add the game, and delete this other file which you know to be the older version of the game)

I did that exactly as you suggested; I think part of the problem is that the GM file runner that is added to the exe when extracted is different every time; people have noted creating 5 exes of the exact same file and getting 5 different resulting file sizes, drastically different, like a good couple 100k difference overall. So, while the patcher may be patching up my game enough, it's totally redoing that extra runner file bit, which is a good meg and a half, causing the patch to end up really large because then it'll repatch my game all around. I tried a couple of times and it ended up the same way each time. Now, it would patch up the GMDs without problems most likely, but I'm not going to hand out the source, especially since it's 5.3 Registered many people wouldn't get it to work at all.

It's 5.3's runner? I'll have to try it out and see if you're right. Perhaps there is encryption or compression involved. These tend to make the binaries uncomparable. Anywhom, I won't waste any more post space in here rembling on about the patch. I'll download it when I find myself with a few more hours on my hands. it is quite the killer to us dialup folk. Do you plan to have 1.2 or so on? If so, perhaps I should hold off until the next version.

Well, I've already been informed by one person that they beat the game and unlocked the secret char, and bugs are all gone, so I won't need a v1.2, so this should be the final vers Which reminds me, the link above ISN'T the most recent update; I created one last update to fix an error just before the final boss that would freeze the game I'll fix the link now
