You'd need a real good understanding of mplay functions. That's a first. Then you'd need a server setup (or as I call it, a government). This way, you determine how the info is syncronized amongst the computers. The most common is Dictatorship, in which there is one server who controls all the information and sends it to everyone. Then there's Anarchy, in which each person sends their info to everyone else. And finally Republic/Democracy, in which there's multiple people who are responcible of distributing the information. Whatever your system, you need a solid foundation behind the rules of how it works.
Everything else from there is optional (or game dependant), such as a login system (not too hard, but requires an understanding of using files).
It ain't easy. Take a look at the Mplay example(s) on the GM site just to see how complicated Mplay really is. And that's just pong. three variables: ball, paddle1, and paddle 2. Imagine an RPG, where you have to keep shooting back and forth.... Sprite. Animation. Location. Inventory. Strength. Weapon. Misc Stats. Quests. Chat. and more. It's just chaos!
If you wanna do an MMO, sir, you're a braver person than I.
Xenith: Yeah, you have to be registered for versions past 5.something (I think it's 5.1)

5.1 and past, 5.0 was the last 100% free ver.
Ooh, if I had to make a MMORPG I'd kill myself, too much work.
