Yes. I've also been informed that oftentimes various bugs will arise, like black buttons and such. I've also been informed that GameMaker can not be run on some Sun and Macintosh machines, as well as other platforms like Nokia phone and various gaming consoles that LGM would run on just fine.
I'm also taking the liberty to inform you that LGM will, in many respects, be a lot better than GameMaker's UI by implementing many functions that GameMaker failed to incorporate or by providing solutions to many of GameMaker's shortcomings. Honesty, when the project is done, I would not be surprised if a lot of people decide to use LGM over GameMaker on Windows itself.

Yeah, but not natively, and not without some glitches and crashes. And anyway, seeing as this wouldn't have GM7 support, maybe it'll develop into a GameMaker-independent software.

For GameMaker independant software, look into G-Java 2. There is a link in the affiliates at the bottom (the image is broken until I figure out how to fix it). The goal of this project is to remain as compatible with GM as possible, whilst offering many features that GM fails to offer.

Hey, IsmAvatar and Evilish... You know me from MSN.
Anyways, I don't see a point in making the GUI in Java if you can make it in C++. That's what I'm using for my Game-Making project (independent of Game Maker). I also happen to make the games playable in Linux.
Anyways, I'm not posting here to promote my project, but to give a hint: Use C++ and wxWidgets.
I know that you said you hated C++, but I'm sure it beats Java.

You're a little late to be promoting another language, now that LGM is almost done. You're welcome to start your own LGM in C/C++, and you may even attract me to help out, but starting over from scratch is not really an option at this point - not to mention the programmers I'd lose because they don't know C/C++ (and would I even pick up any programmers to replace them? That would be unlikely).
Furthermore, C++ is not better than Java. It might compile better, but that's just one aspect. I know 16 languages (and counting), and a few people with Doctorates who all agree with me, and we can say with much certainty that Java is superior to C++ in almost all counts except compiling. We can't even say that C++ is faster than Java, because we've run several tests and keep coming up with Java being faster for some reason.
Finally, it's nice already having cross-platform abilities so that the end users don't have to compile it for their own machine, or pick from a list of compiles for the one that is closest to their machine. You just download the only LGM download, and make sure your Java is updated to version 6, and run.

This topic has been replaced with "The LateralGM Project, Topics of Interest", which merges a couple of formerly pinned topics. Since it no longer serves any purpose except archive purposes, I'm closing it. If you feel any objection to this, PM me to have it re-opened.
